Quick overview for Masya,Pooranmashi and Dasmi

Masya

No-Moon Night

Masya refers to the no-moon day or the new moon day in the lunar calendar. It is also known as Amavasya. Masya holds significance in religious practices, and some rituals, prayers, and observances are performed on this day. People go to Gurudawaras and temples and make their presence. During Masya, the moon is not visible in the sky as it located between the Earth and the Sun.

Because of no moon in the sky during Masya, there is more dark during nights specially during winter as there is fog season as well during winter.Different regions and communities  have their own customs and traditions associated with Masya. Some engage in charity, meditation, or attending religious ceremonies on this day.

Pooranmashi

Full Moon

Pooranmashi also known as Poornima is considered auspicious and is associated with various religious practices and festivals.  People observe fasts, perform pujas (ritual worship), and participate in ceremonies on Poornima. It is also a significant day for conducting charitable acts and spiritual practices. Poornmashi is also celebrated in various other cultures and traditions around the world. In Indian culture, it is often associated with festivals such as Holi, Guru Purnima, and Raksha Bandhan (Rakhri), which are celebrated on the full moon day of different months.

Dasmi

Dasmi (Lunar Fortnight)

“Dasmi” refers to the tenth day of the lunar fortnight, which is considered significant in various calendars and traditions. Dasmi is associated with festivals, rituals, or observances that occur on the tenth day of a particular month. In our village, the Raowal people go to Gurudawaras and Samadhs to make their presence and pray.

Many people also use Dasmi as an opportunity to engage in acts of charity and seva (selfless service). People donate food, clothing, or money to those in need, participate in community service projects, or volunteer at local charitable organizations. This practice reflects the Sikh principle of seva and the importance of serving humanity.
